A dream come true with Shared Ownership at Shepherd’s Gate, Shipston-on-Stour
Today’s housing market is more challenging than ever, especially for first-time buyers, but Danni succeeded when she took her first step onto the property ladder by herself, through Shared Ownership.
Originally from Shipston-on-Stour and working for a local charity, Danni was privately renting but dreamt of owning her own home. With house prices on the rise, the dream seemed out of reach until she heard from close friends about buying a home with Shared Ownership.
The Shared Ownership scheme allows you to purchase an agreed percentage of a new home, usually from 25% to 75%, and pay a subsidised monthly rent on the remaining share. As the deposit you need is based on the share you buy, it’s a more affordable way to get onto the property ladder.
Danni started looking for Shared Ownership homes in the area and saw the signage for Shepherd’s Gate, offering brand new 2 and 3-bed houses for sale.
She was very impressed with the high specification of the homes and the integrated kitchen appliances, plus she found additional features included as standard that other housing providers would charge extra for. The 2-bedroom Cheviot appealed to Danni as it was within her price range, had everything she needed in a home, and the garden was the perfect playground for her cocker spaniel, Coco.
As a first-time buyer, Danni was really happy with the service she received from the sales team: “I felt fully supported by Orbit through the entire buying process. What I thought would be a very daunting and scary experience, was actually made very easy”.
Danni moved into her new home in October last year and is now reaping the benefits; she is saving on energy bills, she didn’t need to decorate or refurbish, and she’s living close to family and friends, who are also impressed: “They love it! My mum wishes she could live here!”
