A helping hand onto the property ladder with Shared Ownership at Savant Court, Lichfield
Meet Chris and Cathy who moved into their new Shared Ownership home at Savant Court in Lichfield earlier this year with their daughters Caitlin and Chloe.
The family made the decision to move back to the UK after living in the Philippines for eight years, to be nearer to Chris’s elderly mother.
On their return to the UK they had difficulty securing a mortgage, having lived abroad for several years and starting new jobs in the UK. But they found that the Shared Ownership scheme was ideal for them, as it allowed them to use their savings to buy the initial share, and in the future, they plan to buy the remaining shares with a mortgage, and eventually own their home outright.
They chose Savant Court in Lichfield for its peaceful location and nearby essential amenities, and it was not far from where Chris’s mother lives. A new build home appealed to them, as it is ready to move into with no refurbishment needed. Chris says: “With a blank canvas to start with it was easy for us to quickly make the place our own and start entertaining our friends and family”.
They made their decision to buy as soon as they had viewed the property. “I think this house is at least one of the best, if not the best new builds we have seen in terms of specifications”. In addition to the integrated kitchen appliances, the family love the layout of the house, especially the wide stairs, open plan kitchen/dining room and generously sized bathroom.
The installation of a network of LAN cables, doorbell, electric car charging point and fibre internet access point also impressed them: “We felt these specifications were above and beyond the norm offered by other house builders”.
Chris and Cathy’s buying experience was extremely positive, thanks to the attentive Orbit team who were on hand to help with any queries during the process and the absence of any issues once they had moved in. “I would give Orbit Homes 10/10 from start to finish”.
We asked the couple what they think the benefits of the Shared Ownership scheme are: “It opens the door to home ownership for people who might otherwise have struggled to afford to buy a home and offers the flexibility to buy more shares when your circumstances change”.
