From narrow boat to a brand new home at Willett Gardens, Wellesbourne
Adrian, a Sub Officer with the London Fire Brigade was living a nomadic lifestyle on a narrow boat on the Grand Union Canal when he decided it was time to set down some roots and buy a home on solid ground.
His search for a new home led him to Shared Ownership and he realised that this would be his opportunity to get onto the property ladder; “Shared Ownership offered me the chance to purchase a lovely home which I would have otherwise been unable to afford”.
Shared Ownership allows you to purchase a share of a new build home, usually between 25% and 75%, and you pay a subsidised rent on the remaining share. As the deposit you need is based on the share you buy, it makes it a more affordable way to get onto the property ladder. And you can also buy more shares in the future and in most cases, own the property outright.
Adrian found a new home that interested him at Willett Gardens in Wellesbourne and contacted the sales team to find out more, and although he viewed other properties with other housebuilders he says; “The helpfulness and ease of dealing with Orbit Homes helped convince me that this was the property for me”.
He also found the buying process straightforward; “Orbit's agents were really helpful, reassuring, and kept me informed at every stage”.
Adrian moved into his new home in August 2021 and loves the layout of the house and his garden, which has plenty of space and privacy, but he’s also happy to be living in a small development within an existing village, which means he’s close to the shops and pub as well as being part of a thriving community.
As Shared Ownership was his route into home ownership, we asked him for the top three benefits of the scheme and he told us; “Number one has to be affordability, secondly you’re building up equity in a property which has to be better than renting, and thirdly there is an excellent choice of good quality properties to choose from”.
We’re happy to have helped Adrian onto the property ladder and it makes us proud to hear him say; “My new Orbit home experience has been everything I’d hoped for and more”.
All the homes at Willett Gardens are now sold, but you can find details of all of our developments on our website: https://www.orbithomes.org.uk/developments
