From renting to home ownership and a place to call their own at Compton Locks

Meet Pete and Kim, who recently moved into their new home at our Compton Locks development in Fenny Compton.

They had been living in rented accommodation for 15 years when they decided to make the move onto the property ladder. After spending so much time renting, they were desperate to own their own home, but found that their lending options were limited, due to their age.

However, a colleague at work told them about the Shared Ownership scheme, which allows you to buy a share of a new build home and then pay a subsidised monthly rent on the remaining share. You then have the option to buy further shares in the future and in most cases, own the home outright.

This was the perfect option for them, so they began their search for a new home. After reading positive reviews about Orbit Homes, they discovered Compton Locks, which suited them as it was a smaller development nestled in a rural location.

Our all-inclusive high specification exceeded their expectations: “It was above what we expected for a housing association; we had seen new builds with a lower quality specification on the open market”.

Their new home included integrated kitchen appliances, carpets and Amtico flooring fitted throughout, fitted wardrobe to bedroom one, turf, patio and closeboard fencing to the garden; features that we include as standard but other housebuilders charge extra for.

Once they had reserved their new home the buying process began: “Orbit made it a lot easier than we thought it would be. Everyone we liaised with was so friendly and helpful. When we first moved in, we had a couple of minor issues which were dealt with immediately”.

The couple are now settled into their new home and couldn’t be happier: “It’s spacious for a two-bed, the bedrooms are both big doubles, the bathroom is a good size and the cloakroom is huge. We have plenty of room downstairs for all our furniture – two sofas, a bookcase, sideboard and full dining table and six chairs”.

“The area is quiet, surrounded by fields with sheep and cows, we love it all”.
