Kings Oak Park show home furniture auctioned for charity
We recently gave one of our show homes furniture a new lease of life by hosting a charity auction. The items, which were donated from the show home at Kings Oak Park in Headcorn, were sold as part of a charity auction between Orbit Homes colleagues. The items on sale included a coffee table, single bed, dining table, sofas, cushions, chairs, and a TV.
£1,000 was raised from the auction, which was donated equally to mental health charity, Mates in Mind, and Macmillan Cancer Support. The show home items which didn’t sell at the auction were donated to Abacus, a Kent based project that recycles unwanted, pre-used furniture and household items, preventing them from going into landfill and selling them on at a reduced cost to families and people in need.
Pravin Amarasinghe, Sales and Marketing Director said: “Following the sale of one of our Kings Oak Park show homes, we were paying for items of furniture to be stored off-site. The furniture was in excellent condition and so we decided to take it out of storage and raise some money for charity by hosting an auction with our colleagues. Safe to say this generated a lot of excitement!
“We managed to raise £1,000 from the sale and any items which were left over were donated to the Abacus Furniture Project. I am delighted that these surplus items of furniture can be put to good use elsewhere and I would like to thank all of our colleagues for taking part and Westerhill In Partnership, for donating some of these items to be sold”.
James Garbett from Mates in Mind added: “A huge thank you to the whole Orbit Homes team for all their hard work with their charity sale. These funds will go towards raising awareness and addressing the stigma of poor mental health on sites and workplaces across the country as we continue our efforts to change the shocking statistics of poor mental health within construction.
The partnership we have with Orbit Homes is greatly appreciated and we thank you so much for all the great work you do to support Mates in Mind and raise awareness of our mission. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership”.
Paula Meurs from Abacus commented: “The work by Abacus makes such a practical difference to people’s lives, by providing good quality, affordable furniture and has wider environmental benefits by encouraging recycling and re-using. We’re really grateful for the generous donation of furniture from Orbit that supports this work and helps us make a difference to the communities we work in”.
